1980 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce

Coachwork by Pininfarina

Chassis no. AR2469964

Engine no. AR00515*108006

The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce:
The second series Alfa Romeo Spider was introduced in 1970 and was (just like its predecessor; the first series “Duetto”) heavily based on Giulia mechanics. Designed by Pininfarina and deemed to be the finer-driving convertible on offer back in the day, the second series brought numerous improvements to the table in comparison to its predecessor.
Initially launched as 1750 Spider Veloce, soon Alfa would introduce a new top-of-the-range powerplant into the Spider; the 2000 Spider Veloce with a 1962 cc engine capacity. This engine produced a healthy 130 hp, 180 Nm of torque and with its curb weight just north of 1000 kg, the 2000 Spider Veloce was clearly intended for spirited driving.
This Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce:
The motorcar we are pleased to offer here, Chassis no. AR2469964, was originally delivered on the 17th of March 1980. The car is currently registered in the Netherlands under reg number LZ-HZ-01 and has resided in the Netherlands for almost 3 decades as it was first registered here on the 19th of June 1995. It is strongly believed that the car has seen 2 Dutch custodians, with the latter being a gentleman who resided in Maastricht who has owned her since 2007. Sadly this gentleman passed away in the late stages of 2021, where we acquired the car straight from the relict in June 2022. The early history of this car is not known, however we’ve requested an official certificate of origin at Alfa Romeo Storico to indicate the original market destination as well as confirm its matching numbers status. We expect this certificate to arrive in the coming weeks.
The Spider is suited with the most desirable engine configuration, the 1962 cc powerplant mated to double Weber DCOE carburettors with the engine (108006) believed to being the original example. The Spider is finished in the iconic colour scheme Rosso Alfa 130 over a Nero interior. Over the years the Spider has been looked after by an Alfa specialist in Maastricht. In the last 10 years the entire drivetrain (engine, gearbox, rear axle, suspension, brakes etc) have gotten attention making that the car performs as is expected from a Spider. The suspension is upgraded with “yellow” Koni sport shock absorbers. Allegedly the drivetrain has been overhauled around 6 years ago, after which the car has only been driven for about 3k km’s according to the official RDW mileage report. This report indicates the Spider has been used very sparingly over the past 25 years, around 1000 km’s per year.
The body is very straight throughout, showing no serious signs of rust or corrosion as seen on the pictures on the underside. The paintwork is in nice condition too, very consistent colour over all panels without notable defects. The stance of this Spider is very good thanks to its 14 inch GTA style rims. These rims are as good as new and are allegedly about 5 years old. The interior is nice too, showing no cracks in the upholstery just some light signs of wear on the central (plastic) tunnel. The soft top does show some minor signs of wear too but is fully watertight nevertheless making a replacement redundant at this moment in time.
This stunning 2000 Spider Veloce comes with its original jack, spare wheel, owner’s manual, document folder including old reg documents and some images of the car’s life in previous custodian’s hands. Since purchase we’ve test-driven, detailed and fine-tuned the car as well as installed correct footwell and boot carpets.
In brief, this is not a concours condition car, but a very nice driver indeed that is technically in exceedingly sorted condition ready for driving pleasure in the Summer months. Probably one of the nicer ones out there.
