The Z3 Roadster:
Internally known as E36/7, production of the Z3 began in 1995 and ran all the way up until Summer 2002 passing through a host of subtle facelifts over the years. Available as 1.8 and 1.9 inline-four, however BMW afficionado's know that the straight-sixes is where its at. Available in a host of capacities throughout the model's lifespan, in 1997 the M52B28 2,793 cc straight-six with 192 PS and 275 Nm of torque was introduced. Bar the M models, the top-of-the-range powerplant available at that point. The Z3 2.8 was designed with spirited, long-distance touring in mind, leaning on the tantalizing torque the straight six produced, it is therefore generally agreed-upon that a non-M straight six is best mated to one of the bullet-proof automatic gearboxes rather than a manual.
This Z3 2.8:
The Z3 on offer here is an original German car, delivered on the 21st of August 1997 by Jost GmbH & Co. KG of Hagen in the Ruhr area. The Z3 was specified with the most potent non-M engine available, the 2.8L with 192PS mated to an automatic gearbox. The original spec sheet that is present in the history file lists the following optional extra's from factory:
  • 306 ATLANTABLAU METALLIC

  • Q4SW LEDER OREGON/SCHWARZ

  • 0530 KLIMAANLAGE

  • 0302 ALARMANLAGE MIT FERNBEDIENUNG

  • 0423 FUSSMATTEN IN HOCHFLOR-VELOURS

  • 0494 SITZHEIZUNG FUR FAHRER+BEIFAHRER

  • 0388 STOFFVERDECK SCHWARZ

The service history of this Z3 is entirely documented in the original service booklet accompanied with invoices. This Z3 has been serviced by just 3 dealers throughout its 26 year lifespan and has remained in Germany up until 2007/2008 when it was brought to the Netherlands, registered under 67-PT-BG and subsequently sold by Autobedrijf Rorije who has looked-after the service duties of the Z3 year-by-year up until 2020.
Today the Z3 has covered a mere 125.490 km's from new, which are fully documented in the car's vast history file. It presents incredibly well inside and out, especially with the desirable 18" two-piece BBS Styling 71 wheels and drives equally great. The straight-six runs beautifully, the gearbox shifts great and the handling is as per BMW intended it: sharp and tactile with plenty of comfort. Paintwork and interior are unscatthered and present as mint as can be expected from a 26 y/o car. The Z3 is fitted with brand new Michelin MI Supersport XL tyres (August 2023) and totally ready to go. It will be supplied with a fresh MOT, two sets of keys, history file containing invoices and ownership history, original BMW documentation including the service booklet, user manual and service station booklet.
Bite-size:
As fresh as a Z3 can be, this specimen comes highly equipped and ticks all the boxes. An increasingly desirable open two-seater in the right spec and with N/A straight-six, they don't make them like this anymore!
