The Z3 2.2i:
In October 2000, the BMW Z3 2.2i seamlessly replaced its predecessor, the BMW Z3 2.0. A completely new engine generation of six-cylinder inline engines (M54B22) was introduced in the 2.2i, an all-aluminium block & cylinder head with double VANOS (variable valve control) producing 170hp in the 2.2i's B22 guise. The equipment for the six-clinder Z3's is rather more upscale compared to the 1.8 or 1.9 four-cylinder models, and consequently the 2.2i came with factory-fitted lightweight alloy wheels, ventilated disc brakes and velours floor mats. The production run of the 2.2i was relatively short, spanning from October 2000 to August 2002, with just 12,861 units produced. For comparison, total production of the coveted Z3 M Roadster reached 15,322 units. This makes the 2.2i rarer than one of the de facto ///M cars of its era.
The updated Z3 introduced noticeably more sculpted rear fenders, redesigned L-shaped taillights and a subtly upgraded interior, along with the introduction of DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) and a better insulated three-layer softtop. The result was a more mature & resolved open two seater altogether.
Today the Z3 2.2i stands as one of the rarer six-cylinder variants, often overlooked perhaps. It offers naturally-aspirated straight-six theater for two at a considerable lower pricepoint than a 2.8 or 3.0 - let alone a Z3M.
This Z3 2.2i:
This particular Z3 is of the lesser-seen 170hp six-cylinder 2.2i variant, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Finished in the exceptionally rare and sought-after colour of Oxfordgrün II Metallic (430), probably one of the finest colours ever offered on the BMW colour palette and a perfect match for the Z3, as the dark metallic Green shade accentuates the masculine lines of the Z3 perfectly. The interior is finished in classic R7SW Black leather, making for a sporting yet elegant specification that certainly stood the test of time.
This car (chassis LK06157) was an original German market car, delivered by Kalus Elmshorn GmbH & Co near Hamburg to its first owner on the 26th of March 2002. Notably, this Z3 has seen only two (!) private owners from new, according to the accompanying German registration documents. The first owner kept the Z3 until the 10th of November 2006 when it was sold to a gentleman from Rellingen (near Hamburg as well) who would keep her ever-since. The accompanying German registration documents therefore warrant that this Z3 has seen just two private owners from new! Today this Z3 has covered just 96.900 well-documented km's from new and presents in simply superb condition throughout.
Paintwork still presents beautifully, thanks to a 2-stage paint correction that we carried out as part of our sales preparation process. The dark, metallic Oxfordgrün shade really is a colour that deserves detailing as it just comes alive in the sunshine! The paintwork on this example is largely original, and as expected, it shows some scratches and signs of wear consistent with its 25-year history. The interior is in very good condition as well, with only minimal signs of use. Even the original velours floor mats are in decent condition. Another example to showcase the overall condition of this car, is the wooden fascia on the center console. This material is notoriously sensitive to UV light and therefore usually fades or cracks over time - however not so on this example! The leather dashboard is unscathed as well, again usually being subject to a lot of UV light fading, shrinking and thus tearing - none of that on this Z3. The softtop, believed to be the original, is also in great condition with a nice and clear rear windscreen. This Z3 benefits from the following optional extra's from factory:
  • 0395 Rollover protection system

  • 0550 Bordcomputer

  • 0658 BMW Business Radio

  • 0210 Dynamic Stability Control

  • 0260 Side airbag driver/passenger

  • 0398 Electro-hydr. operating softtop

  • 0423 Floormats in velours

  • 0435 Wood fineer fascia

  • 0494 Seat heating driver/passenger

  • 0388 Black softtop

Service history is continuous and complete due to all original BMW booklets (service manual, user manual, accessory manual, care tips manual) being present with the car today. When we acquired the car in February 2026, we immediately ordered a complete service and thorough inspection consisting of the following: oil, filter, new front brake pads, brake fluid flush, coolant flush, as well as new oil for the gearbox and rear differential (both are often overlooked!). We also fitted a brand new set of Michelin Pilot-Sport 5 tires, making this Z3 ready for a next enthusiast to use it as intended in the forthcoming Spring and Summer!
This Z3 is as complete as they come: all booklets, tools, accessories and keys are present. A nice plus is the original Z3 fitted luggage case, boot rack and tonneau cover. A period Blaupunkt Bremen CD72 is fitted and works perfectly (complete with original keycard, code plaque and instruction manual). The car is currently accompanied by its German (export) documents for easy registration anywhere - we can ofcourse supply her on Dutch plates for the Dutch clients with a fresh MOT. It will be difficult to find a better sorted and tastefully specified example than this. They just don't come much better. This one is ready to hit the open roads.
