The 6-cylinder Z3:
The 6-cylinder Z3's became available from 1996 onwards and came in the form of the 2.8 and the Z3M with a 3.2L engine respectively. The 2.8 straight-six was coded M52 and put 193 hp and 280 Nm of torque on the table, making the Z3 2.8 a swift sports car even by today's standards. The 2.8's were fitted from factory with the so-called "wide-body", giving it a muscular stance with considerably wider arches on both front and rear - even a powerbulge on the bonnet was incorporated into the near timeless design. A 2.8 Z3 was always intended to be a driver's car and is therefore best suited with a manual gearbox, specifically the wonderful ZF S5-31 5-speed, exactly the same gearbox that was used in the Z3M's. At Garage Maestricht, we think the Z3 2.8 presents an interesting proposition in today's market - an open-top, naturally aspirated six cylinder, manual gearbox with plenty of creature comforts to allow for near daily use even on longer trips. BMW don't make them like this anymore, and nor does any other brand for that matter. Z3M's have long taken off in terms of prices, but great 2.8's are certainly on our radar and the one we're presenting right here is up there with the very best!
This Z3 2.8:
This Z3 2.8 Wide-Body is fitted with the fabled M52 six-cylinder engine mated to the sought-after Manual 5-speed gearbox. It was first registered on the 6th of May 1998 with registration TJ-BZ-82, the registration it still bears today! Today, this original Dutch delivered car has a warranted mileage of just over 94.000 km's. The leather is still beautifully supple and rich of colour, the leather on the dashboard hasn't shrinked nor teared due to UV lighting (typical Z3 gremlin) - even the Red velours mats are still vibrant and fresh. It has always been carefully garaged and consistently maintained, with a continuous BMW service history and supporting invoices. The most recent service was completed in June 2024 at a cost of €1,869.79 incl.
