The Giulia Super 1.6:
“The family car with the sportscar temperament!” – is probably the best way to sum up the 105 series Giulia saloon. The 105 series Giulia needs little introduction with a plethora of variants introduced from 1964 all the way to 1973.
From 1969 Alfa launched the Super 1.6, the last and ultimate iteration of the "classic" 105-series saloon. Details to differentiate the exterior of the “halo” Giulia from the rest are aplenty as Alfa decided to spend big on the pricy chrome details; starting with quad-headlights, chrome strip on the sills, chrome strip on the A-pillars and along the side-windows. On the interior the Super 1.6’s gotten a more lavishly equipped dashboard with big, round Jaeger gauges as well as two gauges for oil pressure and water temperature on the centre console.
For the 1972 model year specific, Alfa changed the model ever so slightly with the following changes to the previous model year;
  • Removal of chrome bonnet strip

  • New 14” wheels and new hubs cabs

  • Lack of chrome bezel on the front indicator lights

  • Rubber boot mats only on the floor and back wall

  • Spring loaded central bonnet stay was replaced by a side stay on the driver’s side

  • Screw on cartridge oil filter

During production, somewhere mid 1972, the word “Milano” was removed from the logo once the new factory in Pomigliano d’Arco (Campania region) began production of the Alfasud.
This Giulia Super 1.6:
Chassis no. AR1982576 is an original Italian car, produced on the 24th of July 1972 and delivered to its first owner in Milan on the 1st of August 1972. According to original build records, Centro Ducomentazione Museo Alfa Romeo can confirm that this Super 1.6  was originally consigned in rare Grigio Indaco AR735 – the specification it is presented in today. Further does this motorcar come with an ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano) “Gold certification” which confirms the chassis, engine and specification are as per original as well. The car is registered in the ASI registry under number 036786.
Today the car is complete with the original jack, spare wheel and has a very solid body with great shutlines and original spotwelds visible in the various places you'd expect to see them. The history file that accompanies the Giulia is vast. A multitude of MOT records, invoices of servicing and restoration works, copies of the original Libretto and the a correct owner’s manual are present. It is not often one finds a car so fastidiously documented and presented. After a stint in the South of France with previous custodians, we purchased the Giulia in Summer 2022 via a Dutch middleman and undertook some final tweaks and servicing works. This consisted of a complete set of lowered springs, yellow Koni shocks, a brand new set of the ever-so popular 15” GTA style wheels, correct GTA wheels bolts and 4 fresh new Hankook Ventus tires.
We subsequently sold the car off-market to a Dutch client who was waiting for the right Giulia to come to market. Due to scarce use the client has decided to part ways with this pride and joy and contacted us to re-purchase the car - which we did without hesitation! During the Giulia's stint with the client, the car was serviced by marque experts Scalino in Elst. Before handing over the car we serviced the Giulia and conducted the full import process to get the car registered on Dutch licence plates. Certainly one of the best driving Giulia’s on offer right now.
Bite-size:
A rare 1.6 Giulia in a desirable spec: Grigio Indaco, lowered springs & GTA wheels! An absolute joy to drive and very sorted throughout.
