2000 Mini 1.3 MPI Sportspack

“For anyone between 25 and 45, the Mini was part of growing up. It gave mobility to millions and bankrupted textile mills by leading the way to mini-skirts (sigh).”
– Peter Sellers in the official Mini brochure of 1997
The Mini MPI:
At the end of the production run when BMW had taken control of the Rover Group, Mini underwent a thorough rebranding as part of a repositioning strategy. In late 1996, the last comprehensive technical change was implemented with the introduction of the multipoint injection system (in-short MPI). When you were planning on ordering your new Mini at the time, you could basically choose 2 setups; the “Mini” and the “Mini Cooper” – with the sole differentiation between the two being the trim and accessories. There were a plethora of different colour combo’s to chose from, making the Mini the most personalizable car on the face of the planet at that time. For those who wanted to show-off the sporting credentials the Mini had earned over the past decades just a tatch more, there was a sports option pack available containing; 13 inch alloys, additional gauges in fascia, large body colour extended wheelarches, 2 driving and 2 fog lamps and a large tailpipe finisher.
Original Sportspacks are widely regarded as the most collectable of the last Mini’s built.
This Mini MPI Sportspack:
The car on offer here is one of those last examples built with original Sportspack, being first registered on the 9th of June 2000. This original Dutch specimen was consigned by mr. M. Maijer, who kept hold of it ever-since. In 2016 the son of the first owner registered the car to his name – making this a virtually 1 owner car from new. The original specification was as tasteful as they come; B.R.G. over a “Monaco trim” interior (black leather & light stone beige inserts) with a gold contrasting roof and mirrors – exactly as the car is presented today. The gold accents were a bespoke option and were supplied by the original dealer who also installed electric windows as commissioned by M. Maijer.
Today the car presents very original throughout, with less than 57.000 km’s on the odometer and in truly impeccable condition both aesthetically and technically. The Mini comes with all original accessories; owner’s manual, warranty card, service manual, leather booklet pouch, 2 sets of keys with original keyfobs as well as the original jack in the Mini branded pouch.
Very rarely do “Sportspacks” come to the market with such uninterrupted provenance, with such unmolested original and tasteful specification and let-alone - such low mileage. With Spring and Summer around the corner, what better way to enjoy your Sunday mornings than to take this little gem for a spin on your coffee commute!
If you’re looking for a stand-out Mini that ticks all boxes one might be looking for, look no further.
