The 40th Anniversary Mini's:Throughout the entire production run of the Classic Mini, many special editions saw the light of day. In 1999, MG Rover produced the 40th anniversary year limited edition Classic Mini, to celebrate the production run of the Classic Mini that up until then spanned 4 decades. The 40th special editions are based on the very last specification Classic Mini with the 1275cc engine with Multi Point Injection (MPI) putting in a well-respected 63 hp. In the UK, the Mini 40 was a limited run of just 250 cars, with 150 being in Mulberry Red, 50 in Old English White and the other 50 in Island Blue. These cars came with a letter, presentation case with a model car and were given specific numbering from 1 to 250. The Mini 40th Registry has identified all these 250 cars by VIN number.According to the Mini 40th Registry, there are believed to be around 400 left hand drive Mini 40th's produced for the European market. All cars were sold in various numbers across France, Belgium, Germany and Italy, with further distribution to other countries as well. On the 40th, there were a range of optional extra's available from factory, some appear to be country specific, and a wider range of colours were also available besides the aforementioned 3. Mulberry Red seems to be the most prevailing colour on these and is (as far as we are aware) specific to this edition only. All of the 40th Anniversary editions were fitted as standard with the "Sportspack" with 13" wheels. However, the Italian market differed from all others as it was possible to order a 40th as a "Sportspack delete" to get the 12 inch wheels and accompanying bodycolour wheel arch entenders. These cars with 12 inch wheels are therefore a lot rarer than the Sportspack variants and difficult to find.This 40th Edition:The car on offer here has been sourced straight from its home market of Italy! Chassis no. 172297 is an original Italian car from new, being first delivered on the 1st of October 1999 by supplying dealer C.A.R.I.M.A of Biella in the very north of Italy near the Italian Alps. She is specified in classic Mulberry Red (believed to be specific to the 40th edition only) over a Bordeaux full leather upholstery with off-white piping and an "engine turned" aluminium dashboard. Today this Mini presents in stunning condition throughout, with no traces of any rust whatsoever thanks to the Italian climate. Technically she is very sound as well, with all electrics and ancillaries working perfectly - even the original Mini radio is still in place and functioning! The Bordeaux full leather interior is original and un-touched and shows only minor signs of use. Technically, the engine pulls very well and the synchromeshes in the gearbox are in great order too (always a typical Mini gremlin). The Mini is complete with all booklets (user & service manual) and comes with two complete sets of keys.
