The Barchetta Limited-Edition:

Fiat rolled out a handful of special editions over the Barchetta’s production run - such as the Club Italia, Web, Naxos, Riviera, Lido and '98 and '99 limited-Editions. The 1998 limited-Edition (LE 98 in short) was limited to 2500 individually numbered cars destined for the European market only. For the LE 98, there were two specs to chose from: 2000 cars were built in Steel Grey 647 over Red and 500 cars in Stelvio Green 312 over Beige. The LE 98 can furthermore be distinguished from all other Barchetta's by its special equipment that was available for this model only:

Red or beige leather upholstery (depending on body colour)
Specific 16" five-spoke alloy wheels
Soft top colour matching the leather upholstery
Red or beige inserts on the steering wheel
Red or beige door handles
Black velour floor mats
Individually numbered plaque on the center console

In the maze of cheap, high mileage Barchetta's out on the open market today - very few can be considered "collectible" by any stretch of the imagination. Let's face it, they're just a used convertible in most cases... However we believe a low mileage, individually numbered limited-edition that is complete with all accessories and documents deserves to be cherished. Such as the car we're proud to have sourced here.

This Barchetta LE 98:

Chassis 36693 was completed on 1 June 1998, making it number 1017 of just 2,500 Limited-Edition Barchettas produced between January and October 1998. Finished in the highly desirable Steel Grey over Red combination, it perfectly complements the flowing lines of the Barchetta and remains one of the most elegant specifications for the model.

This example retains all the LE-specific features that set these cars apart from a regular Barchetta: 16" five-spoke alloy wheels, contrasting red leather with matching details, red soft top, and the all-important individually numbered plaque on the central console.

Provenance:

Originally delivered in Italy, the car moved in 2001 with its first owner to Northern Cyprus (registered HNN.520), where it was reportedly used sparingly .
In 2009, upon emigrating to the US, the first owner passed the car on to his father in the Netherlands, at which time the Barchetta had covered just 18,000 km's.
It remained in the Netherlands until 2020, when it was sold to its third custodian, an enthusiast who enjoyed it for road trips across Europe.
In August 2025, we sourced the car from this long-term owner and brought it to Maastricht.

Condition & Recent Work:

The Barchetta arrived in good running order (we drove it over 200 km on collection) and is, most importantly, totaly free of any rust whatsoever! Nevertheless, it was due some care - so in October 2025 we commissioned a comprehensive service which totalled €1.183,59 incl VAT and consisted of:

Fresh oil, oil filter and air filter
Timing belt, tensioner and water pump renewal
Brake and clutch fluid flush
New spark plugs (the car still had the original Fiat spark plugs fitted from 1998!!)
New rear exhaust silencer & fixings
Wheel alignment and new windscreen wipers

Today the car presents in excellent condition, freshly serviced and ready to be enjoyed. It stands on a set of Fulda tires that still have plenty of life in them and all booklets, keys and accessories are present: original wind deflector, user manual, service manual, radio manual, wind stop manual, service station booklet as well as various other documents supporting the provenance (road tax certificates, MOT's etc.).
