The Z3 2.8:

The 2.8 straight-six, engine code M52 is a highly prized engine amongst BMW aficionados. The M52 benefitted from a host of technological marvels and refinements underwhich a lightweight aluminium engine block, DOHC as well as a single VANOS system (variable valve control). 193 hp and 280 Nm of torque were the figures in the Z3 Raodster and a redline of 6.500 rpm make this specific engine the definitive variant to have for a car of that nature. Bare in mind, Z3's only come in at just over 1.300 kg!

The six cylinder 2.8's were fitted from factory with the so-called "wide-body", giving the Z3 a notoriously more muscular stance with considerably wider arches on both front and rear. Even a powerbulge on the bonnet was incorporated into the near timeless design. A 2.8 Z3 was always intended to be a driver's car and is therefore best suited with a manual gearbox, specifically the wonderful ZF S5-31 5-speed, exactly the same gearbox that was utilised in the Z3M's. Z3 2.8's present a very interesting proposition in today's market. An open-top, naturally aspirated six cylinder, manual gearbox and timeless design with plenty of creature comforts to allow for near daily use. The wide variety of the BMW Z3 market in terms of price points, mileages and overall conditions offer something for everyone. Let it be clear that the example we are offering here, is at the absolute zenith of that market and a real unicorn.

This Z3:

Chassis no. D42486 was originally supplied on the 16th of July 1997 by Autohaus Timmermans GMBH to its first and sole private owner. This owner has kept the car for 27 years straight, when we sourced and purchased it in December 2024 making it a real 1 owner car from new. This Z3 was specified with the right optional extra's and in the superb shade of MontrealBlau 297 Metallic over a Black Oregon full leather upholstery. The superb spec is futher enhanced by an original (non reproduction) and rare set of Alpina 17" wheels and near new Hankook tires. The factory optionlist consists of the following amongst others:

Today this Z3 has covered a mere 28.500 km's from new, which are fully documented with service and TÜV records. The last full service was carried out by Autohaus Gentz of Langenfeld at 27.884 km. The Z3 presents entirely in 1st paint throughout (a real anomaly) and presents in stunning near-new condition, corresponding with its mileage. Also the interior presents near-spotless and it speaks for itself that all electrics and accessories work as they should just as the Sony radio that is currently installed in the car. We decided to leave this radio in as it supports easy Bluetooth pairing to any mobile phone (for media & calls) to make longer journeys that much more enjoyable. For the purists however, the original BMW Business radio is also still present. Needless to say (but we say it anyway) that all original accessories, complete toolkit, spare keys, booklets and a dedicated historyfile containing all service records and TÜV reports are present. If a Z3 is on your watchlist, it simply does not get any better than this example right here.
