The Series 4 Spider:
Before the “all new” 916 Spider was supposed to hit the market in 1993, Pininfarina got tasked by giving the original 115-series Spider a proper send-off by restyling it and launching it to market in 1990. The result was a sleek, elegant open two seater that captured the essence of everything Alfa stands for. The design featured numerous innovations under which full-width body-coloured bumpers, full width rear taillights, 15 inch alloy wheels, ZF power-assisted steering as well as bolting a Bosch Motronic fuel injection system to the glorious twin-cam 2-litre engine producing around 129hp. For selected markets (such as the home market of Italy), the Series 4 was also available with a 1.6-litre engine and carburettors. The exacting setup available on the Series 3. The interior was revised too; the central gauges moved to the driver’s instrument panel, the steering wheel of the GTV was installed, the seats were upholstered with a mix of Suede and Vinyl, moreover the carpeting was of a luxurious deep pile specification in the interior as well as the boot area.
In total about 20.000 examples of the Series 4 Spider were produced in a 4-year production run.
This Series 4 Spider:
The car on offer here is a German car from new, delivered to its first owner on the 15th of April 1992 by world-famous dealership Becker Auto of Dusseldorf. Specified in the for the Series 4 exclusive colour of Rosso Winner Mecalizzato (code 179/F), a sophisticated deep Red that capsulates the shapes of the Series 4 ever-so well (in our opinion). Interior was the accross the board Beige suede and vinyl with a black softtop. Options were limited on the Series 4 Spiders, because it came so complete as standard. Electric windows, power steering, electric antenna, remote controlled mirrors etc. All electrics and accessories work as per they should - including the Blaupunkt radio and electric antenna.
Chassis no. "9359" has remained in the Ruhr Area of Germany throughout its entire life as per original registration documents and today shows 100.500 fully documented km's. The car boasts a superb paint finish with minor signs of use (its >30 years old ofcourse), however no rust is evident anywhere. Believed accident-free, the doors shut beautifully and the shutlines accross the entire body are correct and consistent. Original glass all-round and today benefiting from a fresh new softtop. The interior is a delicate matter on these Series 4's, as the suede is very easily damaged. We're pleased to report that the seats on this example present in fine form still and are not excessively scuffed or damaged. The drivetrain is just as potent, superb engine running butter-smooth and a great gearbox with equal synchros. The rear axle on this example is silent and in great shape as well.
Accompanied by all original accessories including the jack, spare wheel, two sets of keys, all original booklets and a dedicated history file (a thick one) with literally all history is present. This example is also supplied with an original wind deflector, very handy for those longer drives. Even the original sales brochure is present as well! Currently supported by German export documents, it can be registered on Dutch plates for the Dutch clients with a fresh MOT/APK (associated import costs incl asking price).
Bite-Size:
A great Series 4 in the definitive specification. Will be difficult to find a better example at this pricepoint.
