1991 Saab 900 S 16V Turbo

115.000 kilometers from new

Chassis no. 7001261

“The only convertible that’s acceptable in certain circles. Such as the Arctic.”
- Saab about their newly launched 900 Convertible in an official ad
The Saab 900 Convertible:
The “Classic” 900 was originally launched in 1979 and initially available as 3/4 door sedan and 3/5 door hatchback. By the early 80’s, the American importer came up with the idea to launch a convertible variant of the 900 platform and after a few prototypes the official launch of the 900 convertible was imminent in 1986. Come 1987, a significant facelift was implemented across the entire 900 model-range and the 900 convertible was taken into production.
It was a considerably more expensive car than its model-range siblings and was available in a few iterations, mainly based on the same 1985cc in-line DOHC four cylinder, multi-point fuel injection and in most cases – a Turbo (n/a 2- and 2.1 litre variants were available in selected markets).
Uncompromised seating for four, world class build quality, comfortable yet sporty – the 900 convertible was an exceptionally well-engineered proposition. It is easy to see why these have experienced so much popularity (when new, as well as today!) amongst enthusiasts. As ever, original, unmolested examples are a rare sight these days as Saab’s are known to eat km’s for breakfast without any issues. Low mileage examples are therefore very sought-after.
This 900 S convertible:
The car we’re pleased to be offering here was delivered on the 5th of October 1991 and first registered on the 12th of November 1991 by its supplying dealer; Doller Auto - the Saab concessionaire in Mulhouse, France. Chassis no. 7001261 is a 900 S which translates to the 2 litre low pressure turbo (LPT) iteration with 145 hp and 205 Nm. Supplied with the desirable 5-speed manual and the sinister spec of Black (code 170) over a Beige full leather upholstery with a black softtop. Today, this 900 S is in mint and completely original condition throughout - boasting 100% original paint, original upholstery and is fully functioning without exception. Besides the body and drivetrain all electronics, switchgear and general “touchpoints” resemble a remarkably preserved example.
The mileage is underwritten (and thus warranted) by documentation in the form of its service booklet and all MOT certificates. The Saab has lived in the vicinity of Mulhouse in the Vosges up until 2002, when it is believed to be purchased by its second custodian of Bois Colombes, an affluent municipality near Paris. Come 2013 (at 106.141 km’s) the third and last owner purchased the Saab and has used it sparingly over the years, before moving and importing the Saab to Brussels, Belgium in 2017. Today the 900 S has covered just over 114.500 km’s from new and presents stunning.
The car is supplied with a nicely documented history file, as well as its original owners’ manual, matching service booklet, copy of the supplement to the owners’ manual, period registration documents, all MOT certificates and some invoices. All accessories are present, including the jack, complete toolkit, spare wheel and tonneau cover set in the correct storage back. Two complete sets of keys are present as well and an unused, original set of wheel lock nuts. The completeness of this 900 S cannot be underestimated.
It drives as per it should; effortlessly with a butter-smooth engine and slick gearbox. This Saab needs for nothing.
A totally original and complete 900 S convertible in a desperately fine spec boasting 100% first paint. This 900 ticks all boxes an enthusiast might be looking for and is an increasingly rare find out there. An opportunity not to be missed.
