The Mini Mayfair:
The Mini Mayfair was initially aimed as a limited-run edition in a more dainty specification, but eventually was in production for over a decade. Initially introduced in September 1982, replacing the earlier Mini 1000 HLE as the "top" model. It featured significantly better equipment than the standard version, offering a more lavish interior. The Mayfairs were powered by the updated "A-Plus" engine, which had been revised in April 1982, with a 998 cc ("long stroke" engine) displacement and a whopping 40 horsepower at 5000 rpm. In October 1984, 12-inch wheel rims were added to the Mayfair as standard, and a year later, the central instrument cluster (that had been synonymous with Mini's ever since the introduction) was replaced by a cluster positioned directly in front of the driver. In May 1992, the Mini Mayfair was upgraded with a 1.3-litre engine, replacing the previous model. Mayfairs were, as far as we are aware, available in a total of 17 dainty colours with matching trim packs, coachline striping and all came with grey painted bumpers.
This "time-warp" Mayfair:
The car on offer here was first registered on the 22nd of May 1986 to Ettorina Giurato of Monfalcone, at the very North East of the Italian peninsula right at the Slovenian border. Specified tastefully in Moonraker Blue 424, over an Ice Blue upholstery with liners, Prussian Blue carpetting, Silver coachlines and Off White headlining (all Mayfairs came with Off-White headlining from factory). The car was originally registered "GO*161857" and would keep hold of this registration number throughout its entire life. The car has covered a mere 93 (!!!) kilometers from new, which makes this probably one of the lowest mileage Classic Mini's in existence. It is indistinguisable from new inside-out, completely (without any exception) in factory paint and evidently rust-free thanks to careful garaging throughout its life. The plastic protection of the steering wheel is still in place.
Its first owner was clearly keen on her, as she kept hold of the car right up until 2015, when it was passed on to its second custodian who also lived in Monfalcone - ms Georgina Glukhykh. In 2019 the car passed through its last Italian hands before we acquired it and subsequently sold it to a Dutch Mini collector. After years of careful storage in a collection, we could not be more excited to have re-purchased this superb example once more and offer it for public sale.
All original stickers, markings, weldspots, seamlines and undercarriage rust proofing are still in untouched state. This is an absolute reference car of how an original Classic Mini left the factory, and should be preserved as such by an enthusiast! The only deviations that have probably been carried out by the supplying dealer in 1986 are the Alloy rims and the Cooper-style aircleaners on the intake manifold (to provide a bit more power). It was common that Mini's were supplied, by dealers, with specific bits and bobs added to them to fulfill the new owners' wishes.
Today, this stunning Mayfair is fully functioning, together with all electrics & ancillaries and comes complete with all original accessories such as the spare wheel, jack, toolkit , two sets of keys and even an original Moonraker Blue paint spraycan that came with the car from new. Documentation-wise it is also supplied with all original documents, including its user manual, Mayfair brochure (quite rare), original registration documents and contemporary registration documents all enclosed in its dedicated history file. The car has been fitted with four brand new tires (the originals unfortunately became porous and did not hold air anymore) and a brand new battery with masterswitch.
Bite-size:
