The second series Alfa Romeo Spider:
In the midst of the 1960's, Alfa Romeo was going through what is now commonly referred to as "peak Alfa". The 105 model range, initially launched as two door coupe (the GT) and the 4-door Giulia, was eminently popular. As ever, Alfa had an "entry-level" open two-seater on offer and was looking to replace the by-then outdated 101 series Giulia Spider in the form of a dedicated open two seater. Based on the underpinnings of the Giulia (not the GT, as sometimes mistakenly understood), the 105 series Spider was born. The Spider was of Pininfarina's design which for the first series was dubbed "Duetto", with a characteristic round tail design. For the second series however, Alfa took all the learnings from the first series and wrapped it in a more compelling package overall with a "Kammtail" (both for practical and aerodinamic purposes).
Initially available with a 1300cc, 1600cc and for a limited time a 1750cc engine towards the end of the production cycle, Alfa would introduce a new "halo" powerplant; the 1962 cc engine displacement for the top-end 2000 Spider Veloce model. This engine produced a healthy 129 hp and 180 Nm of torque and with its curb weight just north of 1000 kg, the 2000 Spider Veloce was clearly intended for spirited driving.
This 2000 Spider Veloce:
The car we're pleased to be offering here, chassis 382472604, was originally consigned to the Netherlands on the 28th of july 1982 under reg number GY-73-RR. As it concerns an original Dutch car, we have uninterrupted ownership and mileage which is incredibly rare for a +40 y/o Alfa Romeo, only 3 owners have amassed just over 60.000 km's from new.
The Spider was originally delivered in the svelte colour combo of Bronzo Metallizzato (colour code 842) over a beige interior - the exact specification it is presented in today. Some years ago the car received a professional repaint in the correct shade (as per usual after 30-40 years) which presents incredibly well today. Today a nearly new set of Cromodora 14" 5-star light alloy wheels complement the nice stance of this Spider. unlike many Spiders, this car has not been lowered and is as per original with regards to ride hight (and comfort!). The interior is largely original but very nice and tidy. just the usual signs of use (with care!) - even the carpetting is the original from 1981!
Fitted with two nicely tuned SOLEX carburettors, the smooth DOHC 2-litre provides plenty of grunt and shifts beautifully with its slick 5-speed gearbox (no crunchy synchros here thank you!). The body has been preserved with anti-ccorrosion wax oil in the hollow areas (a common weak spot with these) and one can still notice the "stickyness" of the anti-corrosion all-around (sills, bonnet, bootlid etc.). The underside depicts a very honest body with all weld spots, water apertures and seams looking sharp and rust-free. Furthermore all electric ancillaries are fully functioning as they should. In recent years, some considerable investment has been done to keep this Spider in top condition. The most notable servicing works:
  • 2024 | Balocco Classics/Garage Maestricht (brake fluid refresh, new oil, filter, fresh MOT)

  • 2021 | Hans Dekker Automobielen: €1329.43 (big service and revamp)

  • 2016 | Goos van Pelt: €2559.34 (gearbox and cylinder head overhaull amongst other ancillaries)

  • 2015 | Autobedrijf Müskens: €406.54 (brake overhaul incl rebuilt callipers, lines and pads)

  • 2014 | Autobedrijf Müskens: €231.41 (fuel hoses renewed besides small works)

The car is accompanied by a history file containing a certificate to substantiate its mileage (see images), ownership history and numerous invoices. A rare sight is the original Dutch brochure about this exact model that has been with the car since new - just lovely! Furthermore is the original jack, spare wheel, toolkit and the original registration plates from 1981 present (currently the retro Blue plates are mounted). This Spider is desperately waiting for a new owner to take her out and enjoy her as intended in the forthcoming Summer.
Bite-size:
Another honest and unmolested S2 Spider in a rare and desirable spec. Original Dutch car, low substantiated miles and ownership and complete with all ancillaries. If one of these is on your list - do not look further.
Price: €29.950,-
