The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce
The second series Alfa Romeo Spider was introduced in 1970 and was (just like its predecessor; the first series “Duetto”) heavily based on Giulia mechanics. Designed by Pininfarina and deemed to be the finer-driving convertible on offer back in the day, the second series brought numerous improvements to the table in comparison to its predecessor.
Initially launched as 1750 Spider Veloce, soon Alfa would introduce a new top-of-the-range powerplant into the Spider; the 2000 Spider Veloce with a 1962 cc engine capacity. This engine produced a healthy 130 hp, 180 Nm of torque and with its curb weight just north of 1000 kg, the 2000 Spider Veloce was clearly intended for spirited driving.

Chassis no. AR2472213 was originally delivered on the 31st of July 1980 and is believed to have only seen 4 owners ever-since. The car’s most recent custodian, M. Ridder of Essen, Germany, acquired the Spider and registered it as “oldtimer” in the course of Summer 2014 after a host of (infamous) mandatory assessments and appraisals of DEKRA and TÜV NORD. The German authorities’ assessments are widely considered to be of the stricter kind, with so to speak every nut and bolt being assessed for overall conformity.
Today the car presents beautifully in the wonderful shade of Verde Inglese (219) over tan upholstery – believed to being the car’s original shades. The previous owner set out to fully recommission the car, as can be stated from the substantial history file containing numerous invoices of carried out work in recent years (technical & aesthetical). The most notable invoice also being the most recent, in September 2020 a full technical going-over and service has been carried out by marque experts, as well as a full gearbox recommissioning including new synchro’s & bearings (invoiced €3692,-).
Chassis no. AR2472213 has been fitted with Campagnolo Millerighe wheels (€878,- invoice) and 4 tyres which are still in “as new” condition. The previous owner also commissioned several upgrades to increase comfort, as have the seats been re-upholstered in genuine leather and fitted with seat heating (€1547,- invoice) – making this specimen usable for top-down Winter days as well. Another example of comfort increment is the installation of a Retrosound Model Two radio, which (as the name suggests) has the appearance of a historic radio but is suited with AUX, USB and Iphone connectivity – a clear addition of functionality with respect to period appearance. The convertible top is in “as new” condition as well.
The body of the car is relentlessly straight and correct throughout - no signs of corrosion whatsoever and all panel gaps are consistent. The engine pulls a treat, and is suited with a pair of Solex carburettors - it can be thoroughly believed that all the 130 hp’s are still in place. The handling is equally as pleasing with fresh Bilstein shocks as well as very positive steering. With a recent service history, delightful Spring and Summer motoring in one of the finer examples of Alfa's fabled Spider Veloce awaits.

Designed by Pininfarina, finished in a stunning specification and technically as sorted as they come. This S2 Spider Veloce drives as well as it looks and we cannot recommend this gem highly enough.
