The Super 1.3:
Few cars channel 1970s Italian charm quite like the 105 seris Alfa Romeo Giulia Saloon. With its crisp & boxy lines, it’s a sedan that looked sharp then - and still does today. While other brands chased trends, Alfa stuck to its guns, delivering a design that was both elegant and purposeful. The 1.3-litre twin-cam engine? Light on its feet and endlessly engaging, the 1300's are notoriously more rev-happy than the 1600's (that benefit more from low-end torque). We are advocates that a well-setup 1300 is certainly a more than potent enough powerplant for the relatively light (about 1.000 kg's) Saloon that the Giulia is.
From 1971 onwards, Alfa rationalized their line-up with the introduction of the Super 1.3 and 1.6. The two models were identical, with the exception from the engine capacity and badge on the bootlid. Hereby, the Super 1.3 got the more luxurious trim level of the more expensive model with the 1290cc engine, mated to a pair of twin-choke carburettors (unlike other 1300's which only got a single carb).
Easy telltales of a Super 1.3: mainly the quad headlights and a different grille layout on the outside. On the inside a different dash layout and instrument cluster with the bigger and more luxurious Jaeger dials as opposed to the outgoing Veglia-dialed 1300 Super. The seating and door card upholstery was of slightly superior quality and intricacy - lifting the entire interior to a higher level than on 1300 Supers or TI's for example.
The Super 1.3 is regarded as the most desirable 1300-Giulia. It was the last of an era as the Giulia Nuova that superseded it is considered much less desirable by those in the know.
Chassis "2284957":
This Giulia Super 1.3 was produced on the 23rd of December 1972 and first registered on the 1st of June 1973 to Firenze. Finished in striking Grigio Chiaro Metalizzato AR 727 over a Black leatherette upholstery, a timelessly elegant colour combination that complements the Giulia's curves very well (so we think at least). Having spent her entire life in Central and later the South of Italy, up until we sourced and purchased her in the vicinity of Naples in February 2025. Although the Giulia was in generally fine form, the synchros in the gearbox (typical 105 gremlin) were below par so we ordered a full gearbox rebuild at a local specialist in Italy before the car was transported to Maastricht (images of file). Once the Giulia landed with us in Maastricht we did a full once-over at our local Alfa specialist, who also installed a new set of Eibach lowered springs and the desirable 15" GTA-style wheels with fresh Hankook Ventus tires. This setup just elevates the stance and handling of a 105 to another level whilst maintaining comfort for longer trips or even daily use in the Summer months.  We have also done a compression test, underlining that the engine still has plenty of life in it for years to come!
The entire body of this example presents in unmolested & rust-free form today. This can be seen by original weld spots on various places, visible original floor pressings and sharp shutlines on all adjacent body panels. Although the body is very straight and true - this is not a concours car and thus not perfect (but which 50-year-old Alfa Romeo really is). Thanks to past restoration works, the paint finish is consistent accross the entire car (quite difficult to do with Grigio Met.). Technically, the Giulia is absolutely "on the button" thanks to the aforementioned technical overhaul by specialists in Italy where the following aspects were given attention:
  • Complete gearbox overhaul incl. synchros & bearings (invoices + pictures on file)

  • Fresh brake booster, cylinder & brake fluid flush

  • Clutch master cylinder renewal + flush

  • Tuning of the Solex 40 DDH carburettors

  • General service incl. oil, filter, coolant etc.

The Giulia will be delivered with original jack, spare wheel, user manual and dedicated history file containing invoices of recent servicing parts. Currently supplied with Italian documents, it can be registered in the Netherlands on beautiful dark blue classic license plates and will be supplied with a fresh MOT prior to handover. Worldwide delivery is ofcourse an option, just reach out to us for a shipping quote!
Bite-size:
Great 105 Giulia's are difficult to get hold of, so we get very excited when we get our hands on one again. This one is certainly up there thanks to its overall condition, svelte colour combo and recent servicing works. Ready to be enjoyed!
