1964 Fiat 500 D "Trasformabile"

Chassis no. 634166
Engine no. 678984
The Fiat 500 D:
In 1960 FIAT launched an updated version of their relatively fresh-the-the-market people’s car; the 500 Nuova which was initially launched in 1957. With the launch of this second series (deemed to be called the D), FIAT used the uprated 499cc engine taken from the 500 Sport which produced a whopping 17,5 hp compared to the standard 13,5 hp from the 379cc engine. FIAT initially only launched the D with a ‘hardtop’ which made for a smaller sunroof in comparison to the configuration offered on the first series cars. However, due to demand from the general public FIAT did also offer the fully folding back sunroof configuration from the N which was offered as an optional ‘Trasformabile’ layout.
The ‘Trasformabile’ is considered to being "the one to have" and hence is the most sought-after amongst enthusiasts. Fully matching examples in great condition, with great respect to originality (like the car on offer here) are a rare sight these days.
This Fiat 500 D:
The motorcar on offer here, chassis number 634166, was originally consigned to F. Catallo of Isola del Liri on the 28th of February 1964, in the region of Frosine in the South of Italy. The car is presented in wonderful Grigio Perla 602 over a Rosso interior - believed to being the car's original colorschemes. This Fiat has resided in the South of Italy for its entire life, which is substantiated by the original registration documents; the infamous Libretto. It is strongly believed the car has seen just 3 private owners from new.
Chassis no. 634166 has been extensively restored by its previous owner C. Reale of Terracina in the period of 2016 - 2017. To further underscore the car's originality and extraordinary condition, did the ACI certify it in 2018 with an ASI Gold status, meaning the motorcar is presented in wonderful restored condition with great respect to originality as well as being fully matching numbers. The history file of this automobile contains numerous bills of recent restoration works totalling around €5000,- after 2016, a copy of the original user manual and an ASI Gold plaque and certificate. Besides does the car come with a hardtop roof, making an easy conversion to 'standard' roof-configuration possible as well as a complete tool kit.
Bite-size:
A rare opportunity to acquire an early D-series 500 which ticks all possible boxes an enthusiast might be looking for. It will surely put a smile on anybody that gets behind the wheel of this quirky automotive icon, which is ready to be enjoyed by a new owner in the forthcoming Spring and Summer.
